New to Maryland

If you are new to Maryland and you are trying to transfer your tag(s) without having to transfer you Driver’s License. MVA will assign  you a Soundex #  i.e Maryland Driver’s License #.  This will help register any vehicle here in the State of Maryland. To achieve this, you must come in to fill out Form VR-005 and attach a copy of your out-of -State Driver’s License. This information will be forwarded to MVA for this number in question  to be obtained. Once we receive it , you will now be notified  immediately to  to come down to complete the registration process.  Note: This may take up to 3-5 hours to hear back and can only be done when MVA is open.

 

Transfer Out-of-State Tag(s)

To be able to transfer your tag(s); you must  perform these two-step process:

Note: If your vehicle is 7 years or newer; it MUST be done at MVA!

(A)  Obtain a Soundex #

  1. Fill out form VR-005 (Include Maryland Address; if address is out-of-state, MVA will not process)
  2.  A copy of your Driver’s Licence.(This information will be sent to MVA to obtain a  Soundex #. Note: the process may take up to 3-5 hours to hear back from MVA. Once we have received  it;  you will be notified immediately to come down to register your vehicle. Note: this can only be down when MVA is open.

(B) Vehicle Registration With Maryland Safety Inspection

Once we receive the Soundex # from MVA; you will need to provide the following information  below to register your vehicle:

1.  The  Title

     2.    Form VR-005 -Application for Certificate of Title (Note: This form will be given to you    here to sign, & date)

3 .Maryland Safety Inspection

4. Insurance Coverage

 5. Copy of your Driver’s License

Note: If there is no Maryland Safety Inspection, a 30 day Temporary Tag May be obtained at this time.

 

Out-of-State Transfer with 30 Day Temp Tag

Bring the following:

    1. The  Title
    2. Form VR-005 -Application for Certificate of Title (Note: This form will be given to you here to sign, & date)
    3. Form VR-129- MD Inspection Waiver  ((Note: This form will be given to you here to sign, & date) 
    4. Insurance Coverage
    5. Copy of your Driver’s License
